A member of the Denver Police Department, who allegedly requested a welfare check on a fellow Denver Police Department employee, is under investigation for false reporting, the Parker Police Department said today.
According to Sgt. Doreen Jokerst of the Parker Police Department, the Parker police received a phone call last Wednesday requesting that they make a welfare check.
The caller said a co-worker had not shown up for work for three days and they wanted Parker officers to respond to the house and check on his well-being.
“During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the reporting party was playing a practical joke on his co-worker,” said Jokerst.
Jokerst said the Parker Police Department currently has an on-going criminal investigation concerning charges of false reporting.
She said Parker Police have conferred with the Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office and “charges are pending.”
Byron Jones, an Arapahoe County chief deputy district attorney, said that Parker police have called the Arapahoe County DA’s office concerning a question of law.
Jones said the DA’s office is not participating in the investigation with Parker police nor conducting an independent inquiry.
Jokerst said that because the investigation is on-going, she is not able to provide additional details.
Sonny Jackson, spokesman for the Denver Police Department, referred all questions to Parker police.
