An donation from a Denver-area couple has saved the Special Olympics Colorado’s 2010 State Winter Games, the organization announced today.
The annual event at Copper Mountain had been cancelled this year until the donors, who asked not to be identified, stepped up with about $80,000, said Kathy Muffenbier, a spokeswoman for Special Olympics Colorado.
“These generous Coloradoans, who wish to remain anonymous, have made our athletes’ dreams come true,” the organization’s president and CEO, Mindy Watrous, said in a statement. “We are extremely grateful to them.”
The 32nd annaul event will be March 28-29 at Copper Mountain Resort and Dobson Ice Arena in Vail for about 400 athletes and 600 volunteers, the organization said.
