DENVER—Colorado’s Capitol may have a gold dome, but state lawmakers say there’s no room for a gold standard.

The House State, Veterans & Military Affairs Committee on Tuesday rejected a proposal from Rep. Kent Lambert, a Republican from Colorado Springs, to invest some of the state’s severance tax funds in gold bars.

Lambert says taxpayers should be able to see their taxes at work and verify that the legislature is following the law by maintaining a reserve. But lawmakers said it would be too difficult to store gold, and they killed the bill.
