FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Police say they have caught a mental hospital patient suspected of assaulting a staffer and stealing three cars as he fled from a Fort Collins facility.

Schools in the area were locked down for safety precautions, but have reopened.

Police say the 28-year-old patient escaped from Mountain Crest Behavioral Healthcare Center around noon, then stole three cars to get away. Police say they caught up to him at about 1 p.m.
