DURANGO, Colo.—Colorado regulators have fined a gold mine operator in La Plata Canyon a maximum $15,400 for mining without a permit.
A year ago, the Mined Land Reclamation Board sanctioned Wildcat Mining Corp. for cutting a new road without a permit and in November ordered the company again to stop using the road.
An inspector says he later found the road freshly plowed and a mill built without a permit inside a portal of the company’s May Day mine. The board contends the portal was built without a permit after the board ordered the company in November to halt most mining work. Wildcat Mining lawyer Chris Neumann contends the order wasn’t violated.
The board issued a new cease-and-desist order Wednesday with no exceptions.
