DENVER—Colorado health officials say the state’s obesity rate grew faster than the nation’s from 1995 to 2008.
The Colorado Department of Health and Environment said in a report released Wednesday that the percentage of state residents who were obese also increased from 10 percent to 19 percent during those years.
The report is a surprising contrast to Colorado’s consistent ranking as one of the leanest states in the country by the Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Colorado health officials say the state’s obesity rate increased by 89 percent, while the country’s increased by 67 percent from 1995 to 2008.
