A man accused of trying to run over a Denver County Sheriff’s deputy with a car last week was formally charged today.
The Denver District Attorney’s office also charged Brendan Cook’s girlfriend, Natalie DaFermo, 22, with being an accessory to the crime.
Deputies went to Cook’s home in the 1200 block of South Knox Court on Feb. 18 to arrest him on a drug-possession warrant.
Cook, 25, reportedly jumped out a window of the home, slid behind the wheel of his BMW and hit one police officer as he fled. The officer’s partner fired a shot that broke the driver’s side window of Cook’s car, but did not hit him.
The deputy sustained unspecified injuries, but was treated and released at a hospital.
After a day-long search, Cook was arrested at a different home in southwest Denver that night.
He faces charges a felony count of second degree assault on a peace officer.
Prosecutors allege DaFermo helped Cook avoid arrest.
Cook is in the Denver County Jail on $250,000 bond. DaFermo also is in the Denver County Jail on $20,000 bond.
Records show Cook has a long criminal record, including multiple arrests for marijuana possession, driving under the influence, possession of dangerous drugs and failure to appear.
DaFermo also has previous arrests for drug possession, underage alcohol consumption and failure to appears.
Court records show DaFermo and her family had a permanent restraining order against Cook in 2007.
