Spring-like weather is coming to the metro region this week with highs in the 50s and near 60 on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service office in Boulder.
Sunny skis are expected today with a high of 53 degrees.
A chance of rain threatens the Front Range on Thursday, with the mountains likely to pick up a few more inches of snow.
March is Colorado’s snowiest month. The state’s snowpack was at 88 percent of its 30-year average as of Monday, according the Natural Resources Conservation Service in Lakewood.
Over the weekend, “intense” snowfall of up to 18 inches left avalanche danger in many areas of the high country, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center in Boulder.
Backcountry skiers are being urged to use extra caution. Two Colorado skiers have been killed by avalanches this season.
