Aurora Central 69, Fountain-Fort Carson 65

FOUNTAIN — In the first of three stunners in Tuesday’s Sweet 16, Aurora Central and Dese Lee (21 points) earned a huge road victory by knocking off second-seeded Fountain- Fort Carson.

Aurora Central (19-6) used the balanced offense of Auberee Prickett (14 points), Joseph Abrams (12) and Shawn Banks (11) to earn a spot in Friday’s Great 8 at the Denver Coliseum against Highlands Ranch.

Fountain-Fort Carson ended the season with a 21-4 record.

Grandview 66, Montbello 51

Call it stunner No. 2 as the Wolves convincingly handled the host and Denver Prep League champion Warriors.

Grandview moved to 16-9 behind Kevin Gausman (20 points), Dominique Lawrence (18) and Dillon Moritz (15). Next up for Grandview — Front Range League champion Fairview.

Montbello (22-3) was paced by Isiah Cooper’s 20.

Doherty 83, Abraham Lincoln 74

In another upset, the Spartans downed the host Lancers behind Tyler Velasquez’s 29 points.

Doherty (17-9) took some lumps in nonleague as well as in the C.S. Metro, but Dylan Sisneros (16 points), Matt Oesterle (13) and Mark Jones (12) lifted the Spartans in the tournament.

Abraham Lincoln (19-6) received 35 points from junior Dominic Williams, but it wasn’t enough.

Regis Jesuit 68, Boulder 59

AURORA — The defending state champion Raiders (24-1), who have yet to lose in state this season, fought off the Panthers.

Bud Thomas, the past season’s Mr. Colorado Basketball by The Denver Post, paced Regis Jesuit with 25 points. Guard Joey Ptasinki added 18.

For the Panthers, Riley Grabau, who joined the team in midseason after transferring, led all scorers with 33.

Fairview 74, Mountain Range 61

BOULDER — Darragh O’Neill’s 32 points pushed the Knights (20-5) to a rematch victory over their Front Range rival Mustangs (19-7). Mitchell Castillo paced Mountain Range with 20.
