FORT COLLINS, Colo.—A Fort Collins man who got into a violent standoff with police in 2003 is clear on the charges that led to the standoff.

Larimer County officials have dismissed drug and weapons charges against Michael Welch Jr. Authorities surrounded Welch’s Wellington home in the summer of 2003, and an armed standoff ensued. Welch’s father, the senior Michael Welch, was killed.

The younger Welch fled with his family to Canada in 2004. He was apprehended in 2006 and has since been in custody in Colorado.

The dismissal of the drugs and weapons charges came Friday in a plea deal in which Welch has agreed to plead guilty to violating his bond and other charges. Prosecutors declined to say why some charges were dropped. Sentencing is March 29.
