WASHINGTON — Top federal officials said Wednesday that the Nigerian who allegedly attempted to blow up a Northwest Airlines flight over Detroit on Christmas had been entered into a terrorist database, but his name was never forwarded to a special watch list to keep him from entering the U.S.
The officials, testifying before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, also said they are close to tightening up these kinds of shortcomings in the flight-screening process President Barack Obama ordered.
