
A 23-year-old Boulder man was punched in the face by a stranger at a taxi stand Saturday afternoon and left with a brain injury police describe as life-threatening.
The assault happened on the southeast corner of 11th and Walnut streets in Boulder.
Police said the victim and a friend had left the Walrus Saloon and were trying to hail a cab when confronted by three men.
One of them, described by a witness “chunky” with “no neck” and “a pot belly” hit the victim so hard it knocked him unconscious, according to Boulder police.
Doctors said the man suffered a brain hemorrhage and broken bones in his face, according to the statement from police.
The attacker was said to have “distinctive physical features.”
He was described as a 20- to 22-year-old Hispanic or Pacific Islander with dark red curly hair. He was heavy and 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall, police said.
