A 23-year-old father has been arrested for investigation of child abuse after doctors found that his six-week old daughter had both a broken rib and a head injury.
The father, Anton Bogachov, and his wife took the child to a doctor on Monday after she started throwing up, according to Mark Techmeyer, spokesman for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
At the time, it was believed she had stomach flu.
However, on Wednesday, after she continued to throw up and had a seizure, she was taken to Children’s Hospital.
Doctors at Children’s found that the child had a broken rib, which was already starting to heal, and a head injury with fluid on the brain.
At that point, investigators from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office went to the hospital. After interviewing the parents, Anton Bogachov was arrested for investigation of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury.
He is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $25,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.Howard Pankratz: 303-954-1939 or hpankratz@denverpost.com
