BOULDER, Colo.—Joey Ptasinski scored 10 of his 24 points in overtime Saturday night as Regis Jesuit won its second straight boys Class 5A state championship with a 68-58 victory over Fairview.
The game was tied 52-52 at the end of regulation. Ptasinski scored and drew a foul seconds into overtime. He converted the three-point play, and the top-seeded Raiders took the lead for good.
Regis Jesuit (27-1), the Continental League champion from Aurora, won despite a sluggish start. Fairview (22-6), the No. 2-seeded Boulder school from the Front Range League, raced to a 13-0 lead and led 20-16 at the break. Regis managed to tie it 33-33 at the end of the third quarter.
Ryan Winters scored 11 points for Regis Jesuit, which finished the season with 26 straight victories.
Fairview was led by Shane O’Neill’s 18 points, while Michael Melillo scored 17 points and had 10 rebounds.
