FORT COLLINS, Colo.—A bull that escaped from its pasture in Larimer County wandered almost three miles near two schools before its owner caught up with it.

Sheriff’s officials received a call around 8:30 a.m. Friday of a bull running loose. A middle school went into lockdown, and automated phone calls told nearby residents to stay in their homes.

Wildlife officers tranquilized the animal four times before the bull’s owner, Samuel Ferrell of Broomfield, guided the animal into a trailer after almost five hours.

Sheriff’s officials say the bull was part of Ferrell’s rodeo bucking stock.

Animal control officers were determining how the bull escaped. Sheriff’s officials say misdemeanor charges of animal at large and public nuisance are possible.
