FLORENCIA, Colombia — The International Red Cross says a Colombian soldier who was held hostage for more than 12 years has been freed by rebels.
Sgt. Pablo Emilio Moncayo was one of the longest-held prisoners of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, known as the FARC. He was 19 when captured during a rebel attack on an army outpost in the mountains on Dec. 21, 1997.
A Brazilian helicopter flew to a hand-over spot Tuesday.
