
Vivian Stovallis a civil rights advocate whose commitment was strengthened by hands-on participation in events like the 1963 March on Washington and meetings with such leaders as Martin Luther King Jr., Ralph Abernathy, Cesar Chavez and Jesse Jackson.
Brionne Wright is a Grandview High School senior ranked in the top 3 percent of African-Americans taking the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test. She is also a gifted vocalist and recipient of the Louis Armstrong Award for alto saxophone at the Skyline Jazz Festival.
Last weekend, they and five others became Living Portraits of African-American Women for 2010, chosen by the Denver section of the National Council of Negro Women and honored at a ceremony chaired by Annie Howard and Joyce Cheatham.
The others were Jocelyn Miller, director of the East High School Drum Line and executive director of the Robert A. Miller Education Resource Center; Sharletta Evans, who founded the nonprofit, faith-based Red Cross Blue Shield Gang Prevention Inc., following the 1995 drive-by shooting that took the life of her 3-year-old son, Casson; Vanessa Anderson, the first African-American to be crowned Ms. United Nations U.S.; Virginia Payne, a founding member and past president of Parents Action Committee for Education; and Ann White, whose work with the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment and the Stapleton Workforce Center involved finding qualified employees for such major projects as the building of Denver International Airport, Coors Field and the Pepsi Center.

Members of the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority, along with some doctors and media personalities, will escort the children modeling in the 25th Little Hearts Luncheon and Fashion Show.
