More than a week since Kitchi the otter went on the lam from the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, tips to the Otter Hotline were slow Thursday, except for a few April Fool’s jokesters, the zoo said.

Since Kitchi and three otter accomplices broke out of their exhibit, the zoo staff has followed a dozen fruitless leads to find the last of their missing North American river otters.

“Now that the weather is warming, there are more people out walking and biking trails, and recreating by lakes and streams,” the zoo said in a statement. “The chances of seeing Kitchi should increase as the community gets outside more in the coming weeks.”

The Otter Hotline number at 719-648-7348. The zoo asked that callers provide specific details about when and where the otter was sighted, and, if possible, for photos or video.

The otter isn’t dangerous, unless provoked, but Kitchi is apt to dine in fish ponds or lakes, the zoo stated.
