The driver of a pickup truck who allegedly was involved in a hit-and-run accident that injured a Colorado Springs bicyclist surrendered to police Sunday night following a brief standoff.

The owner of the pickup, identified as Steven Acord, surrendered to officers from the Colorado Springs patrol and motor units.

According to the police department, a 39-year-old man riding his bicycle in a crosswalk on Brookside Street was hit by a silver Dodge pickup truck.

The pickup was traveling south on Nevada and made a left turn on to eastbound Brookside Street when it hit the bicyclist.

The bicyclist suffered a broken leg and a broken collar bone.

The pickup fled the scene and officers flooded the area.

Based on information provided by witnesses, officers were able to locate the pickup in a nearby apartment complex. The vehicle is registered to a resident in one of the units of the complex.

Acord was contacted by phone and, after negotiations, he surrendered, police said.

Acord was arrested and is being held on suspicion of felony hit and run and related charges.

During the incident, another driver ignored barricades at the scene and nearly struck some officers, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department. The driver, William Monnin, is being held for investigation of DUI and other charges, said officers.
