BOSTON — Steve Donahue, who led Cornell to three straight Ivy League basketball titles and to the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament, was hired Tuesday to replace the fired Al Skinner at Boston College.

• DePaul hired Oliver Purnell, who went 138-88 in seven years at Clemson, as its coach. He replaces Tracy Webster, who took over on an interim basis after Jerry Wainwright was fired in midseason.

• Citadel coach Ed Conroy agreed to fill the coaching position at Tulane vacated by the resignation last week of Dave Dickerson.

Jim Boeheim, who guided Syracuse to a 30-5 record, was named the Naismith coach of the year.

Baseball players mull grievance

NEW YORK — Baseball players might file a collusion grievance charging owners with conspiring against free agents last winter.

“We have concerns about the operation of the post-2009 free agent market,” new union head Michael Weiner said. “We have been investigating that market. Our investigation is far along but not yet complete.”

• The percentage of major-league players born outside the 50 states dipped from 28 percent on opening day in 2009 to 27.7 percent at the start of this season. The New York Mets had the most foreign-born players with 18, while the Rockies had 10.

Clarett seeking prison release

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Ohio State running back and Broncos draft pick Maurice Clarett is awaiting a judge’s decision today that would release him to a community- based correction facility after spending 3 1/2 years in prison. He was convicted on charges of aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon.

• A judge said former Detroit Lions receiver Charles Rogers must repay $6.1 million to the team. Rogers was suspended for substance abuse in 2005 and was released by the Lions the next year.

• Defensive end Marcus Spears and linebacker Steve Octavien signed their tender offers to remain with the Dallas Cowboys.

• The Houston Texans agreed to a deal with kicker Neil Rackers.

Bosh suffers broken face bone

CLEVELAND — Toronto Raptors forward Chris Bosh suffered a broken bone in his face after being inadvertently elbowed by Cleveland’s Antawn Jamison. Bosh was bleeding from the mouth and nose area as he was helped by medical personnel. He was to be kept in the hospital overnight for further evaluation.

• San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker has been cleared to play after missing the past month with a broken hand.

• Atlanta Hawks leading scorer Joe Johnson is out indefinitely because of a sprained right thumb.
