DENVER—President Barack Obama has nominated Denver attorney John Walsh for Colorado’s U.S. attorney.
The 48-year-old Walsh has gained bipartisan support from Colorado politicians. He was an assistant federal prosecutor in Los Angeles and a member of the team that investigated and prosecuted Charles Keating.
Walsh, who grew up in Colorado, returned to Colorado in 1999 and joined a Denver law firm handling antitrust, securities and environmental cases.
The U.S. Senate will consider the nomination.
Obama’s first nominee, Stephanie Villafuerte, withdrew her name from consideration in December amid a flap over access to a restricted law enforcement database during Democratic Gov. Bill Ritter’s 2006 campaign. A campaign aide, she became Ritter’s deputy chief of staff.
Villafuerte denied any wrongdoing.
