Denver is under attack from dueling pianos!
Of course there is Sing Sing, which has attracted the wild and rowdy under the ChopHouse in LoDo since 1996. Always a favorite destination for bachelorette parties, its motto says it all: “LoDo Doesn’t Get Any Lower.”
Now, fellow voyagers, come two more. Get ready to sing along.
On April 30 at the Landmark in Greenwood Village, Chez Cirque Dueling Pianos will open. It has pianos, seating for 350 with standing room for another 100 and an upstairs mezzanine with bottle service (bottle of Grey Goose vodka $200). Publicist Melody Bittner says it’s across from Jing on the bottom of one of the condo buildings. “It’s easy to find us — and you’ll hear us too.”
And the former Buca di Beppo space at 1400 Market St. will welcome Wild Ivories Dueling Piano Saloon in June. The new joint will have dueling pianos on the main floor, dueling DJs on the basement level, plus VIP areas and bottle service.
Dueling pianos, bachelorette parties and bottle service. Works for me. Or does it?
Fore!
Aspen’s oddest golf tourney, the Trashmasters Invitational, comes to town July 29 and 30 with a new scoring reward. You see, Trashmasters is the only golf tourney that rewards you for making bad shots — like The Billie, honoring Bill Clinton for “a lie so bad it could endanger your reputation.”
I had suggested in print in December that organizer Boone Schweitzer add The Tiger, which he is going to do. He’s putting a fire hydrant next to a tree on the course — and if you hit both of them and still drive 300 yards, you get three extra points.
And on April 18 and 19 the Gatlin Brothers come to Denver to headline the TAPS Celebrity Classic at Arrowhead Golf Course.
Pam in print
Local star Pam Grier’s book, “Foxy: My Life in Three Acts,” is just out — and she’ll be promoting it May 11 at the Denver Press Club and May 18 at the Tattered Cover in LoDo.
The first act spends a lot of time in Denver — and it’ll hold plenty of interest for those interested in old Denver, Five Points, Buster’s barbecue, the KHOW Beauty Pageant, the Rev. James Cleveland’s Church, Mac’s Record Rack — and parts of her very sad past before she became the Queen of Blaxploitation.
Through the looking Glass
Ira Glass brings the stories of “This American Life” to the Paramount on May 15. He talks about the show, tells some tales, plays some recorded stories — everything a fan of the show could want. Tix at and Pepsi Center box office.
City spirit
Richard Lewis has canceled his appearances at Comedy Works South on April 23 and 24. . . . Another Larry David regular, JR Smoove, Leon Black on “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” is at Comedy Works on May 26-30. . . . Single tix for Tony Bennett at the Colorado Symphony Ball on May 8 at the Sheraton Denver Downtown on sale for $350. . . . Tyler Burd and Emma Blackwell won first-place dancing at the Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender. . . . Local movie theaters putting “Kick-A” on their marquees. . . . Sez who: “A book store is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking.” — Jerry Seinfeld
