Karl no fan of seeing Nuggets on TV
NBA fans watching ESPN and ABC on Sunday might have seen a taped feature of Nuggets coach George Karl watching Friday night’s Nuggets- Jazz game from his home with Rick Reilly.
The three- minute clip showed Karl, attired in a blue satin warm-up outfit, in a recliner, commenting on the game while answering casual questions from Reilly.
Although Karl’s voice was weak, he obviously was aware of what was going on, saying: “I hate to watch like this. . . . It makes me very nervous. . . . I have no control watching on TV.”
He also showed a bit of frustration while mimicking J.R. Smith’s dribbling antics. The segment, aired twice on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” and at halftime of the Cavaliers-Bulls game on ABC, also showed Karl getting one of the many daily shots needed for treatment of his throat and neck cancer.
Reilly, by the way, is giving up writing for ESPN The Magazine, according to The Business Insider and SportsBusiness Daily, and will concentrate on television.
He gained fame as a columnist for Sports Illustrated, following stints with The Denver Post and the Boulder Daily Camera.
