Eight Cherry Creek schools amped up security today as the sheriff’s office investigated a robbery in the area.

The schools went on a “secured perimeter” status from about 10:45 a.m. until about noon when the order was lifted, a Cherry Creek School District spokeswoman said.

The security measure concluded without incident.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said at about 10:40 a.m. a man armed with handgun robbed a business at 16728 E. Smoky Hill Road.

The robber forced a clerk at Check Into Cash into a bathroom at the business and told her not to come out, the sheriff’s office said.

The bandit, who remains at large, got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. He is described as a black man, about 5 feet, 2 inches tall, with a goatee. At the time of the robbery he was wearing a tan and orange striped shirt, blue jeans, sun glasses and a black backpack.

Schools affected were: Smoky Hill High School; Laredo Middle School; Indian Ridge, Trails West, Independence, and Meadow Point elementary schools; and the Transition Center and Estate I Team.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office at 303 795-4711.
