Let the postseason fun begin. Boys lacrosse, the first of the sports to end its regular season, does so Friday, and the playoff bracket will be in place by Saturday for the 24 teams moving on. The eight conference champions are protected into the second round of the tournament, which culminates May 22 at Invesco Field at Mile High.

Among the games to watch in the last two days of the regular season is Wheat Ridge at Mullen on Saturday in a nonleague contest. And while their records aren’t what they used to be, today’s Regis Jesuit at Kent Denver game will be well worth the trip.

GIRLS GOLF

The Ashley Forey

The 16th annual gathering at Rolling Hills Country Club to honor the memory of former Wheat Ridge golfer Forey should give us a good inkling about who has her game in shape for the final May push. Weather permitting, Monday’s gathering brings out the best from all corners of the state.

Overland’s dynamic duo of Somin Lee and Seung Ha Choi, who each carded a 75 on Tuesday at The Ranch, figure to be in the mix for medalist honors. The team race could be the best it has been in years, with the usual powers from Skyline, Cherry Creek, Highlands Ranch and Regis Jesuit on hand.

TRACK AND FIELD

For whom the bell tolls

Littleton Public Schools Stadium will be the place to be Friday and Saturday for the annual Liberty Bell Meet. But if you listen to the weather forecasts, it could be a little interesting.

BASEBALL

Critical league happenings

Ask most observers, and they will tell you three-time defending Class 5A champion Rocky Mountain may be pretty tough to beat this month. That said, the Lobos are used to getting every team’s best effort, game in and and game out.

Next on the list of challengers is Boulder on Thursday. The Panthers are 8-4 and feel like they have as good a shot as anybody to upend the mighty Lobos.

In the Class 4A Jeffco, Saturday’s game between Evergreen and Wheat Ridge will break the tie atop the standings and give the winner a leg up for a top seed for the upcoming regional tournaments.

GIRLS SOCCER

No. 1 vs. No. 2

It’s the one Colorado Springs has been waiting for. Class 4A No. 2 Cheyenne Mountain hosts No. 1 Lewis-Palmer tonight at 7 p.m. Cheyenne Mountain’s Darcy Jerman, Julianne Marshall and Janae Vander Ploeg have a combined 37 goals and 27 assists.
