Ramped up

Renovated, handicapaccessible playground at deKoevend Park, 6301 S. University Blvd., Centennial

Play time. Thanks to South Suburban Parks and Recreation and an Arapahoe County open space grant, deKoevend Park recently received a $312,000 makeover. The renovation includes wheelchair-accessible ramps and transfer decks. There are more swings (including one for a handicapped child), spring riders, a four-seat teeter-totter, a climbing rock and other amenities.

Loopla-palooza

Golden’s Lariat Loop official scenic byway ceremony, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday, downtown Morrison; free

Viewfinder. The 40-mile loop familiar to Front Range bicyclists, pleasure drivers and Buffalo Bill enthusiasts becomes the first scenic byway in the metro area. Free soft-serve ice cream for participants and a chance to see a county commissioner dressed up as Annie Oakley.

“Art at the Apex: An Exhibit of Works by Colorado Students” opens Tuesday at the U.S. Department of Education, 400 Maryland Ave. SW, Washington, D.C.

Colo-art-o. Thirty-two works by students from nine Colorado public schools are on display through May; slide show online after May 5 at . The art reflects the students’ concern for environment, cultural diversity and self-discovery. Colorado fourth-grade artist Sarena Payte is among the guest speakers at Tuesday’s opening ceremony.
