A man and woman are using two children, a young boy and young girl, as decoys to set up thefts at day spas and salons in the metro area, Denver police said Thursday.

The thefts have taken place at several businesses in Denver, Lakewood and Broomfield, according to the Denver Police Department.

Denver police said the pair take either the boy, about age 6, or the girl, about 4, into spas and salons and ask whether the child can use a rest room. While the child is in the restroom, the adults look in break rooms, offices and private areas for things to steal. Police believe the thieves have hit at least eight businesses in the Denver area.

One thief is described as a Latino man in his early 20s, about 6 feet tall and 175 pounds. He has short, dark-brown hair. The woman is said to be Latino, medium height, about 200 pounds with thick eyebrows drawn on with eyeliner. Her hair is sometimes dyed red or blond, and she is thought to be in her 30s, police said.
