Denver’s largest Jewish K-12 school will change its name from Herzl/RMHA at the Denver Campus to Denver Jewish Day School on Aug. 1.
The change follows months of research and strategic planning in which officials determined that the new name best reflects what the school is, officials said.
The current name was a compromise after the Theodor Herzl Jewish Day School and Rocky Mountain Hebrew Academy merged in 1999. They joined on one campus in 2002. Since then, the school has been known informally by at least six different names. “The new name will serve as a catalyst to reintroduce and re-energize the school in our Jewish community,” said Avi Halzel, head of the school.
The mascot remains the tiger. The school colors will be red and black.
The rollout of the new school identity will take several months, officials said. Electa Draper, The Denver Post
