PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo.—The liftoff of a new Global Positioning System satellite has been pushed back a day because of a problem with the launch tower.
The Air Force Space Command says Thursday’s scheduled launch at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., was postponed because equipment that controls a moving arm on the tower must be replaced.
Launch is now scheduled sometime after 11:25 a.m. EDT Friday.
A Delta IV rocket will carry the first of a new generation of GPS satellites into orbit. The new satellites, known as Block IIF, have a design life of 12 years, faster processors, more memory and a new signal for civilian uses. They are built by Boeing Co.
