Returning to a motorcycle- safety class after lunch, two police officers crashed their bikes into each other in Jefferson County on Thursday afternoon.
The officers — one from Lafayette, the other from Northglenn — were thrown from their motorcycles when one bike clipped the other as a group of more than 30 motorcycle cops was getting onto C-470 at West Ken Caryl Avenue about 12:30 p.m., according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The officers, who have not been named, were taken to Swedish Medical Center in Englewood with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, said Trooper Heather Cobbler.
Neither officer was cited, but the collision remains under investigation, she said. The crash temporarily closed C-470.
Thirty-three officers were taking part in a week-long motorcycle-training school for advanced riders at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison. The class is put on by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
“They are all experienced riders,” said Jefferson County sheriff’s spokesman Mark Techmeyer.
