Canadian songwriter and his band the Wooden Arms stopped by the on Wednesday night, with an opening (and at least according to our photographer, underwhelming) set by Built to Spill-esque locals .
Watson’s delicate, quasi-orchestral approach has earned comparisons to Rufus Wainwright and Andrew Bird — though neither of those really get at his nimble style — and the small-ish crowd was clearly ready to follow him wherever he went that night.
“After they finished the regular set, they quickly came back in for the encore and brought the crowd out to the patio behind the venue,” Barrett reported. “Watson strapped on this crazy backpack thing that was equipped with several bullhorn speakers that branched over his head. Then the guitarist plugged into this contraption and the microphone as well… unbelievably creative and awesome.”
