Tebow has pedigree.

“No other quarterback in modern history has been so talked about as Broncos rookie Tim Tebow. I had the privilege of watching him perform in the toughest conference in college football: the SEC. Here in Mississippi, most of us are Manning fans, starting with Archie at Ole Miss, then Peyton at Tennessee and finally Eli at Ole Miss. All went on to be outstanding NFL quarterbacks and all had outstanding character, athletic ability and intelligence. Tebow possesses those same characteristics.”

Lewis, Meridian, Miss.

Kiz: Tasty pork BBQ and passionate pigskin. That’s what I love about the South, y’all. But get off this garbage that SEC competition ensures Tebow will be a smash hit in the NFL. I give you two words: JaMarcus Russell. Need I say more?

Griese is the word.

“Why is it every time I read about Tebow, the name of Brian Griese comes to mind? He was supposed to be the second coming of John Elway. You make a good point about Brady Quinn giving the Broncos a better chance to win in 2010.”

Eric, Durango

Kiz: Now let’s be fair. If we recall the words of Mike Shanahan accurately, it was Griese who was supposed to be the next Joe Montana. Let’s hope Tebow isn’t the next Danny Wuerffel, another Heisman- winning quarterback for a Florida Gators team that ripped up the mighty SEC.

Confusion reigns.

“After reading you column on the confusion about the winner of the boys high jump at the state prep track meet, I had to answer ‘Yes’ to your question: Ever witness justice served so coldly it makes you want to cry? I witnessed the same thing last year in the same event at the same meet, and I did cry for my daughter. Amy Medina was tied for first place with two other girls in the Class 4A high jump, when all three competitors missed at 5 feet, 6 inches. Amy thought she had finished second due to total misses. She found out otherwise while standing on the victory podium at the No. 2 spot, when officials asked her to step down. Of course, no one told her before she got up there. I now have a photo of Amy with a confused look on her face instead of a smile. My daughter won the high jump and triple jump this year for Mountain View, but she knows how Dave Day of ThunderRidge feels now.”

Jose, proud father

Kiz: So let’s kindly ask the Colorado High School Activities Association a polite question. Can we put an end to this utter nonsense? After it was announced to the crowd that Day had won the Class 5A high jump in a great battle against Travvis Scott of Coronado, it was apparent from the shock on Day’s face he was unaware the results were under review and his first-place finish had been overturned until stepping on the victory podium 20 minutes after the event had ended. So how could CHSAA let something so awkwardly painful happen to a teenager two years in a row? Maybe it’s because the rules to break ties when competitors finish with the same height in the high jump are so confusing that not even the top track athletes in the state fully understand what’s going on. As it was explained to me by a meet official, the first tiebreaker is fewest misses at the maximum height cleared. The second tiebreaker is fewest misses from beginning to end of the competition. Here’s a humble suggestion on what CHSAA can do: 1) Make the lone tiebreaker the fewest misses throughout the competition, and 2) Notify all athletes immediately whenever a result is under review, because keeping a competitor in the dark is bogus.

Vonn gets beaned

And today’s parting shot is pitch perfect, which is more than we can say about a recent singing performance by an area Olympic hero during a baseball game in Chicago.

“What’s up with Lindsey Vonn singing ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’ at Wrigley Field, especially during a game against the Rockies? If she were from any other state, it would be seen as an act of treason. Imagine Le- Bron James singing that song in Yankee Stadium when the Indians were visiting the Bronx. What’s next, Chauncey Billups in a Raiders jersey at Invesco Field?”
