A 79-year-old man who wandered away from the dementia ward of a Boulder assisted-living home Saturday night eluded searchers for 14 hours and traveled more than two miles.

He was found this morning sitting in a back yard in the neighborhood near where he used to live, and appeared unharmed, according to Boulder police.

Police issued a bulletin saying he was dressed in way that might attract attention: three hats, three shirts and three pairs of pants, police said when they issued a public bulletin this morning.

He was reported missing from last seen about 9:30 p.m. Saturday at Sunrise of Boulder Assisted Living at 3955 28th St., according to Boulder police.

He was found just before noon today near his old home near 14th Street and Elder Avenue in North Boulder.

Front Range Rescue Dogs combed the neighborhood until 2:45 a.m., police said in a statement.

According to its website, Sunrise of Boulder is a private facility to offers care for Alzheimer’s patients and other assisted-living services.
