Los Angeles investors Alec and Tom Gores are exploring a deal to buy or gain the distribution rights of Overture Films, a movie-production company owned by Douglas County- based Liberty Media Corp., The Wall Street Journal reported online.
The Journal quoted unnamed sources saying the deal is valued at roughly $200 million and includes Starz Media, a Liberty subsidiary that has a home-video distribution deal with Overture and owns the home-video distribution company Anchor Bay Entertainment. Starz Media is a unit of Liberty’s Starz LLC, which owns Overture and the Starz and Encore cable channels.
The Journal reported that “the Goreses would like to use Overture’s theatrical and Anchor Bay’s video distribution and promotion apparatus.”
The deal may be part of a bid by the two brothers to acquire Miramax Films from the Walt Disney Co.
