AND RIVER HAZARDS, AS WELL
River flows are increasing as warm weather melts snow in the high country.
In northern Colorado, the Cache la Poudre River was running at 1,874 cubic feet per second Friday, well above that date’s 128-year average discharge rate of about 1,500 cfs.
Dave Dennis of the Larimer County Dive Rescue Team said that with Memorial Day weekend underway, team members are on standby for rescues. He said the extremely cold temperature of rivers filled with melting snow will make it even more important for rafters to wear life jackets against the risk of becoming incapacitated.
A rafting-company employee was killed Wednesday after getting caught on a snag while swimming in the swift-flowing Arkansas River near Parkdale.
