A CU dental professor at the center of an investigation into licensing issues has resigned.
Dr. Randal James submitted his resignation in May, according to University of Colorado spokeswoman Jacque Montgomery, who said she could not provide further details.
James had treated patients and supervised students at a university dental clinic in Aurora with an “inactive” state license since 2004 — a practice allowed under an exception in state law until last August.
A Denver Post investigation found James continued to treat patients after the law change. He had remained on staff at the School of Dental Medicine for the past three months but was prohibited from seeing patients.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is looking into the dental school’s prescription-writing practices in part because students supervised by James used the drug credentials of faculty members who sometimes were not present.
The state dental board again took no action Wednesday on James’ application for an active license.
