A man who was fatally shot in his Federal Heights home yesterday was identified today by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.
Brandon Putnam, 24, died from multiple gunshot wounds, the coroner’s office said in a media release.
Putnam was awakened early Thursday by an armed intruder who shot him after a confrontation, police said.
The incident happened about 1:30 a.m. in the 2500 block of West 91st Drive, said Federal Heights police Lt. Gary Toldness.
Toldness said a man who had been visiting the home was leaving and was in his car when another car with three men inside pulled up.
A man in the front passenger seat, armed with a rifle, got out of the car and held up the man who was trying to leave. The gunman demanded a car stereo from the robbery victim and then forced the victim back into the home.
Once inside the home, the gunman and robbery victim awakened Putnam. A confrontation ensued, and the resident was shot multiple times. He died at the scene.
The gunman left the home and fled with the driver and the rear-seat passenger, who had been waiting outside.
The robbery victim was not injured.
Police said all three suspects were dressed in black clothing, with black hoodies and black bandannas. All three men had their faces covered during the incident.
The suspects were in a gold or light-brown sedan, possibly a Dodge Intrepid, Dodge Stratus, Chrysler Sebring or other similar car, Toldness said.
Investigators believe the gunman used a small- caliber rifle, Toldness said.
