A Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy in training who triggered a three-car accident on C-470 near West Bowles Avenue has been identified.

The deputy was making a U-turn across a median Sunday night to respond to a call when he pulled into traffic and was hit by two trucks, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The sheriff’s office identified the deputy as Steven Cer.

Cer, a senior deputy in the car, and the driver of one of the trucks had minor injuries. Cer was cited for careless driving by the state patrol.

The sheriff’s office is reviewing the accident to decide what, if any, measures will be taken against Cer.
