Getting your player ready...

It wouldn’t be the Fourth of July without fireworks, but if you’re setting them off illegally, you should be prepared to pay a hefty fine.

Police across the metro area will be issuing citations to anyone using illegal fireworks.

Denver police will have extra officers on the streets through today.

Illegal fireworks are any devices that explode or leave the ground. That includes firecrackers, cherry bombs, Roman candles and bottle rockets.

Violators will be issued a citation to appear in court- and could be fined up to $750.

The Denver Police Department began issuing citations last weekend and have already issued several in the area. 9News
