Human error by casino personnel likely caused a Cripple Creek gambler to believe she had won $11 million last month, the Colorado Division of Gaming said today in a news release.

Mary McMahon of Colorado Springs was playing a quarter slot machine at Wildwood Casino on June 1 when the machine flashed “$11,000,600.00.”

She had actually won $1,672.82, the top award on the machine she was playing, the release said.

An investigation showed that the “base and reset values on the controller” had been programmed in at $11,000,600, instead of $600 when a casino employee was working on the machine on May 12.

McMahon did win the top prize, as the slot machine indicated, but the flashing amount of the top prize was wrong.

The McMahons did get dinner on the house, and they’ll get an overnight trip back to Wildwood to collect their prize, even though it’s not the one they were hoping for.
