LOUISVILLE, Colo.—Vestas Wind Systems plans to open a research and development office in Louisville that will employ up to 240 people over the next several years.

The Danish company announced its plan Tuesday during the Louisville City Council meeting. The company says its pays a salary averaging $80,000.

Vestas has three Colorado plants that make wind turbine components. It expects to hire up to 100 people in the first year in its new office in the Boulder County community.

The city council approved the company’s request for an incentive package that will refund part of the building permit fee, which should amount to $5,500.
