DENVER—A Colorado Springs woman got less than she thought she gambled for when what looked like an $11 million jackpot at a Cripple Creek casino turned out to be actually $1,672 in winnings.
Mary McMahon won the top jackpot on a quarter slot machine June 1 and the correct amount flashed on the display. The display also showed $11,000,600 instead of the $600 values programmed into the controller to become the new base jackpot amount.
The Colorado Division of Gaming said Tuesday that human error apparently was to blame for the mistake.
A calculating error in a penny slot machine’s software at a Central City casino led to a false message that a Thornton woman had won $42.9 million in March. She should have won $20.18.
