ADAMS COUNTY — A former Marine who admitted to killing his wife and setting his house on fire wept during a court appearance Friday morning.

Charles “Dave” Fisher III, 29, was advised of the charges against him in connection with the July 3 murder of his wife, 30-year-old Belinda Fisher, in their Thornton home.

Fisher is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree arson.

During the court proceedings, Fisher turned over the rights for his wife’s car to her family. The court is also allowing the family to go to the home to retrieve the couple’s cat, which has been hiding inside since the fire.

Firefighters found the body of Belinda Fisher after responding to the fire July 3.

After setting the fire, according to an arrest affidavit, Charles Fisher went to the Thornton Police Department and told detectives he shot his wife after she returned from a movie.

The affidavit says he then admitted to starting the fire.
