DETROIT — The Tigers placed outfielder Magglio Ordoñez and second baseman Carlos Guillen on the 15-day disabled list Sunday.

Ordoñez fractured his right ankle in Saturday’s 3-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, and Guillen strained his right calf in the fifth inning.

Detroit purchased the contracts of first baseman-third baseman Jeff Larish and infielder Will Rhymes from Triple-A Toledo and released right- handed pitcher Billy Buckner.

Zambrano ready for Rockies.

Carlos Zambrano will make one more appearance with Triple-A Iowa before rejoining the Cubs next weekend.

Manager Lou Piniella said Zambrano will probably return during their series against the Rockies.

Zambrano was suspended without pay for three days and put on the restricted list after a dugout argument with Derrek Lee on June 25. Zambrano is expected to pitch out of the bullpen.

A-Rod hit on wrist.

Alex Rodriguez left the Yankees’ game against the Royals in the eighth inning after getting hit by a pitch on his left wrist.

“I was more fearful of the ball coming toward my face,” Rodriguez said. He said he did not even need an X-ray and expected to play against the Indians.
