A fire at the Homewood Suites in Fort Collins this evening was put out before firefighters arrived thanks to a fire sprinkler system in the hotel.
The fire was reported at 7:45 p.m. at 1521 Oakridge Drive. When crews made their way into the second floor of the hotel, where the fire started, they found smoke, but the fire had already been extinguished by the sprinkler system.
One guest at the hotel, who found the fire and assisted with evacuation, suffered from smoke inhalation and was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to a news release from the Poudre Fire Authority.
The fire started in the kitchen after someone left a combustible object on the stove while the burner was on.
Fire investigators have called it an accident.
Fire and water damage to the building was called minimal.
