A truck driver suffered serious injuries shortly after noon today when his truck struck him, according to Trooper Heather Cobler of the Colorado State Patrol.
Cobler said that the accident happened on Colorado 8, just north of the junction of Colorado 8 and U.S. 285.
Cobler said that a truck driver had pulled over to a taco stand to buy lunch. After finishing lunch, he tried to start his truck, but found that the truck’s brakes had locked up, said Cobler.
When he got under the truck to fix the problem, the truck started rolling and struck him, said Cobler.
The trooper said she did not know if the semi actually rolled over the driver or simply gave him a glancing blow.
According to Cobler, the incident happened about 12:19 p.m. The State Patrol was called to 19192 Highway 8, which is the address of The Fort Restaurant and the Tesoro Cultural Center, a non-profit located at the Fort.
Sarah Shirazi, the director of development for the non-profit, said the Fort is not open for lunch but truck drivers during the day often use the parking area around the Fort to take breaks.
Shirazi said that the taco stand is just north of the Fort and the Tesoro Cultural Center.
Shirazi said that crews are currently trying to get the truck back onto the road after it rolled off.
