DENVER—A state appellate judge, a district judge from Colorado Springs and a deputy attorney general are the three finalists to fill an upcoming vacancy to be created by the retirement of Chief Justice Mary J. Mullarkey.

The finalists are Robert Russell, a judge on the Colorado Court of Appeals since 2004; David Prince, a 4th Judicial District judge and former attorney with Holland & Hart; and Monica Marquez, a deputy Colorado attorney general who oversees the section that represents state agencies, including the governor’s office.

The three finalists were selected by the Supreme Court Nominating Commission, which is comprised of seven attorneys and eight non-attorneys, and headed by Mullarkey. Mullarkey’s retirement will create a vacancy effective Nov. 30.
