GREEN RIVER, Utah — A single-vehicle traffic accident near Green River has killed a nearly 2-year-old Colorado girl and critically injured her mother.
The Utah Highway Patrol said Samantha Bermudez of Thornton was being held in the arms of her 33-year-old mother, Rubicelia Santacruz-Alvarado, and neither was wearing a seat belt.
They were ejected from the van, which rolled into the median. Officers believe a rear tire’s tread shredded, causing the crash early Saturday morning. The child died at the scene. The mother was taken to a hospital with critical injuries.
