JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jaguars Pro Bowl running back Maurice Jones-Drew has not had knee surgery, coach Jack Del Rio said Monday.

Del Rio squelched the surgery rumors put out by an Internet blog report.

“No,” Del Rio said. “No, has not happened, is not necessary. He’s working, rehabbing, strengthening and gearing up for the regular season.”

Del Rio said he will give Jones-Drew, who has a sometimes balky left knee, more rest and he won’t play Thursday against the Falcons.

The Jaguars open the regular season Sept. 12 at home vs. the Broncos.

Campbell returns to practice

ALAMEDA, Calif. — Raiders quarterback Jason Campbell worked out for the first time since being carted off the field during a preseason loss to San Francisco on Saturday.

He appeared fine during a light 90-minute workout in no pads and showed no lingering effects from the stinger he suffered after being hit by 49ers linebacker Travis LaBoy in the second quarter.

Campbell’s right wrist, which he injured on the previous series and was more of a concern for the Raiders, also appeared fine.

“He did everything we need to do in practice,” coach Tom Cable said. “I knew after the game that he would be all right, so it was just a matter of him going back to work.”

NFL looking at Suh’s tackle

BEREA, Ohio — Browns coach Eric Mangini said he expects the league to review Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh’s rough treatment of quarterback Jack Delhomme in Saturday’s game in Detroit.

In the second quarter, Delhomme was scrambling out of the pocket when he was grabbed by Suh, the No. 2 overall pick in April’s draft. Suh flung the 35-year-old to the ground, and Delhomme got up waving his arms in protest. Suh was assessed a 15-yard penalty for the infraction.

League spokesman Greg Aiello said the play was being reviewed.
