Eric Young Jr. had two hits in five at-bats Wednesday night. No big surprise there. Young, after a 2-for-23 stretch, was 6-for-17 in his previous four games. The two hits improved his batting average at Coors Field to .328. His long-term future in the leadoff spot will depend on whether he hits on the road, where he’s at .190.

On the run.

Young also stole a base, giving him a league- leading 11 since his recall from Triple-A Colorado Springs in mid-August. He has been thrown out twice.

Sweet 16.

It was just a blooper barely beyond the shortstop’s reach, but Carlos Gonzalez will take it. The hit in the sixth extended CarGo’s career-best hitting streak to 16. He’s hitting .516 (32-for-62) during the streak — with nine doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 21 RBIs.
